GRACE’S LANDSCAPE RECOMMENDATIONS

 

WATERING NEW LANDSCAPING:

WARMER WEATHER

  1. Every day the 1st 2 weeks

  2. Every other day for the next 2 weeks

  3. Three times a week for the following month

  4. Once a week thereafter and depending on rain

 

COOLER WEATHER

  1. Every day the 1st week

  2. Every other day the next 2 weeks

  3. Twice a week the next 2 weeks

  4. Once a week thereafter and depending on rain

Note: Check oaks, crape myrtles and annuals frequently with a moisture meter in the rootball.

 

WATERING NEW LAWNS:

When to water:

  1. Daily for 1st 2 weeks (twice a day in summer)

  2. Every other day for next 2 weeks

  3. Once a week thereafter and depending on rain

Note: check frequently in hot summer months – objective is to deliver 1” of water per week

​WHEN TO FERTILIZE NEW LAWNS:

Twice a year – April and September/October with Medina Growin’ Green Fertilizer

 

FERTILIZING:

  1. ANNUALS – once every 1-2 weeks with Miracle Gro or organically with Hasta Gro or once every 4-6 weeks with organic Rose Glo Granular

  2. BEDDING SHRUBS – every 3-6 months with Osmocote 14-14-14.

  3. ESTABLISHED EVERGREENS – Monthly with organic Medina Growin Green

  4. Top dress flower beds twice a year organically with Nature’s Blend Compost

MOWING:

  1. BERMUDA SOD – Every 5 days during growing season maintaining a 1” height

  2. ST AUGUSTINE SOD – Every 4-6 days during growing season maintaining a 2”- 3” height

PRUNING:

  1. HARDY TREES & SHRUBS – heavily prune while dormant- (crape myrtles, oaks, elms, ash, bush roses etc.)

  2. SPRING BLOOMERS – heavily prune after they bloom in spring (azaleas, indian hawthorn, climbing roses, carolina jessamine vine etc.)

  3. LIGHTLY PRUNE MOST PLANTS THROUGHTOUT THE YEAR.
     

INSECTS:

  1. APHIDS – Bayer Rose & Flower, organically with Pyrethrin or Neem Oil

  2. MEALY BUGS – Bayer Rose & Flower, organically with Insecticidal Soap or Pyrethrin

  3. SPIDER MITES – organically with Spinosad or Neem Oil

  4. WHITE FLIES – Bayer Rose & Flower, organically with Sticky Traps or Pyrethrin
     

DISEASES:

  1. FUNGAL DISEASE – Black Spot – Fertilome Systemic Fungicide or Neem Oil Powdery Mildew – Fertilome Systemic Fungicide or Serenade Rotting – Daconil Leaf Spot – Daconil (esp. indian hawthorn, photinia, ligustrum) or Serenade

  2. UNIDENTIFIED DISEASES – Send off sample to The Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Texas A&M in College Station.

TIMING FOR TREATMENT:

  1. GRUB WORMS – Bayer Season Long May – June, Bayer 24-hour Grub Control or Bayer Complete in June - July

  2. CHINCH BUGS – use Spectracide Triazicide, Bayer Complete, or Hi Yield Turf Ranger

  3. When to treat for fungus: Brown Patch – use Bayer Lawn Fungus in early fall, organically with SOD FUNGAL DISEASE IN SOD- Nature’s Blend Compost or Composted Manure Take All Patch – Peat Moss

 

WEED CONTROL: 

  1. ROUND UP – (post emergent) kills all existing plant material

  2. AMAZE – (in beds after 1st 2 weeks and established lawns; prevents new weed seeds from germinating

  3. WEED-B-GONE- kills broadleaf weeds; will not hurt lawn grasses (Do not use under drip line of trees) (DO NOT USE ON FLORATAM GRASS)

  4. GRASS-B-GONE- – kills all grasses; will not hurt desirable plants listed on label
