ALL ABOUT GRACE
Born and raised in the Corpus Christi area, Grace Buchanan has loved the art of South Texas gardening for over 50 years! Upon graduating from Robstown High School, she attended Texas State University where she earned both a B.S. and M.Ed. in Education. After 25 years of teaching, in 2008 she decided to pursue her dream job in the landscape contracting business. At Gill Landscape Company, she was blessed to be mentored by one of the finest designers in the Corpus Christi area, James Gill. Under his guidance, Grace's work in Dynascape and intense knowledge of South Texas plants ultimately lead her to become a landscape designer. She did this while also attending Del Mar College to improve her CAD skills and earn a third degree, an Associate's in Architectural Technology and Design. Upon graduation, her husband's work relocated them to the Rio Grande Valley in 2019 where they settled in Laguna Vista. In 2020, she was doing design work for Tree of Life Garden Center in San Benito. Today, Grace is a contractor and consultant for some of the largest businesses in the Rio Grande Valley, which marks this as the beginning another dream come true . . . Designs by Grace.
Grace inherited the love of gardening from her Grandma. So, it’s natural that her earliest memories would include raising Texas Bluebonnets, picking wildflowers in an open field, admiring snapdragons in her grandma’s house, and watching butterflies flicker near the window when she was in 1st grade! She comes to the Rio Grande Valley with over 50 years of gardening experiences within the state of Texas that range from Central Texas to the border of Mexico. Professionally, her landscape design & consultation work has carried her literally hundreds of miles across Texas from Beeville to Boca Chica and Edinburg to South Padre Island. Grace has worked for the design companies of Gill Landscape Company (Corpus Christi), Fischer Landscaping, All Pro Landscaping, Bay Area Landscapes (Corpus Christi), Tree of Life Garden Center (San Benito), and J&R Landscapes (Port Isabel). She helps her clients materialize the garden of their dreams realistically and within their budget. To ensure this, she stays abreast of the best practices for sustainable gardens as a Texas Certified Landscape Professional and is currently working towards becoming a Certified Master Nursery Professional.
